Yesterday, our home minister Mr. P chidambaram has accepted that Naxalism in the plains of India is a much bigger threat to the national security, than the separatism in Kashmir and NE. He was completely on the right note when he said this. According to the recent statistics, cases related to naxalism are nearing four figures(964 - to be more precise) that has outnumbered all the incidents in Kashmir and NE put together. Kashmir has witnessed less than 200 and NE has witnessed around 500 incidents in the same period.
I was always of the view that Naxalism is a much bigger and deeper threat than we ever anticipated. We need to come out of the Kashmir-NE-phobia, when there are bigger anti-national activities are on in the main-land of India. Thanks God the government has also accepted this, at last. But we have bigger challenges ahead, PC. Finding out the problem and acknowledging it is not something we can pat ourselves for. The main task starts now. When Prime Minister, during his recent speech has appealed all countries to work together for the complete eradication of terrorism, some of our national politicians must be listening, I hope and I pray. How long will these politicians keep sowing the seeds of naxal-terrorism for the petty political gains and that too, at the cost of the national security.
It is high time we realise these issues and take some stern actions not only against the armed group of the naxalism, but also those who are working overtime to become the champion of the naxalism or naxal-terrorism. Hope that we all will work together to eradicate the naxal-terrorim!!!
